We purchased this beautiful 60 acre farm in Geauga County, OH in 2013 with the goal of being able to live a more sustainable life, and to be able to share our love of great food raised as humanely as possible without the added use of antibiotics, hormones and genetically modified feed. It's something we personally feel strongly about and it seems as if there are many others who feel the same.
It is a business, but we are just as passionate about being stewards of this land, so we strive to keep a happy balance. The quality of our product is extremely important to us, and so our philosophy is to work with the seasons of the year. For example, we won't have fresh chicken available November through April because the weather generally is too cold and wet, the grass doesn't grow much and the chickens don't thrive/are not happy outside in the moveable tractors. Our calves and lambs are born in Spring/early Summer so that they can get a head start in life basking in warmth from the sun and eating fresh pasture.
You will see browsing through our website that many of the animal breeds we have chosen are on The Livestock Conservancy's Preservation List, an organization which seeks to help promote and save these heritage breeds. Although they are superior tasting and have lots of other great traits they are not 'viable' options from a 'large' commercial perspective - for example they take longer to get to table size, they do better on pasture than when fed corn in a feedlot. However for us and for what our goals are, they are worth the extra wait - better taste and mounting evidence that pasture raised livestock without the addition of antibiotics and genetically modified feeds as being a much healthier alternative.
We'd like you to visit our farm so you can get to know us and what we are about. We will answer all your questions about what we do and why we do it. We really do grow great food and it's not at the expense of the animal's well being, in fact you will see that our animals live happy lives and are allowed to exhibit all the natural traits and behaviors of their species.
